Anti-ageing treatments soften the visible signs of ageing — fine lines, wrinkles, loss of volume and loose skin — without surgery. They do not stop or reverse ageing, and most effects are temporary, so results are maintained with repeat treatment.
The right combination depends on what you want to change: lines caused by muscle movement, lost volume, skin quality and laxity each respond to different treatments.
Which treatments are used for anti-ageing?
- Botulinum toxin ('Botox') injections – relax the muscles that cause frown lines, forehead lines and crow's feet; the effect wears off over a few months
- Dermal fillers – hyaluronic acid gels that restore volume in the cheeks, lips and under-eye area; temporary, with the duration depending on the product and area
- Laser skin tightening and RF microneedling – stimulate collagen to improve firmness and texture over several months
- HIFU (high-intensity focused ultrasound) – heats deeper layers of the skin to give a modest lift, developing over a few months; less marked than a surgical facelift
- PRP for the skin – your own plasma, used to support texture and glow
- Chemical peels – improve fine lines, sun damage and dark spots
- Microneedling with growth factors – supports collagen, texture and fine lines
What results can you expect?
- Softer lines and wrinkles, and restored volume where fillers are used
- Gradual improvement in firmness and texture after collagen-stimulating treatments
- Results that last months rather than permanently, maintained with repeat sessions
- Little or no downtime for most treatments, although some bruising or swelling is common after injections
What are the risks of anti-ageing treatments?
Most side effects are mild and short-lived: bruising, swelling, redness and tenderness. Less commonly, toxin injections can cause temporary drooping of an eyelid or brow, and fillers can cause lumps or asymmetry. Rarely, a filler can block a blood vessel, which needs urgent treatment — this is why injectables should only be given by a trained doctor who can manage complications.
Who should get anti-ageing treatment?
- Men and women with early or established signs of ageing
- Anyone with fine lines, wrinkles or loose skin
- People who want to improve firmness and skin quality without surgery
- People with dull, dry or ageing skin
