Hair transplant in India, for patients flying in

Patients travel to DR HAIR® India from the UK, the US, the Gulf, Australia and Canada for one reason: a surgeon-performed session here costs a fraction of the same work at home, and the surgeon you consult is the surgeon who operates.

What the same procedure costs, country by country

Indicative market ranges for a 2,000 to 3,000 graft FUE session. India’s figure is the range published on our cost page; the rest are what clinics in those markets commonly quote. Your own figure follows an assessment of your photographs and is given in writing.

Hair transplant cost by country
CountryTypical rangeIn US dollarsNote
India (DR HAIR® India) ₹30,000 – ₹1,50,000 US$350 – 1,800 Surgeon-performed FUE, FUT or DHI. Written quote after assessment.

United Arab Emirates AED 15,000 – 40,000 US$4,000 – 11,000 Wide spread between clinics in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
United Kingdom £4,000 – 15,000 US$5,000 – 19,000 Private only; the NHS does not fund hair transplant.
Australia A$10,000 – 25,000 US$6,500 – 16,000 Not covered by Medicare or private health funds.
Canada C$8,000 – 20,000 US$6,000 – 15,000 Not covered by provincial health plans.

Why the gap exists

It is not a difference in equipment or technique. FUE, FUT and DHI are performed here with the same instruments and anaesthesia used in London, New York or Dubai. The difference is what clinical time, theatre space and staffing cost in India. What varies between clinics — in any country — is who actually performs the extraction and implantation. At DR HAIR® India that is Dr. Jai Bansal, who has performed more than 4,000 procedures across 15 years, and not a team of technicians working under a visiting surgeon.

The honest caveat is that a cheap procedure done badly is the most expensive one there is. Over-harvested donor areas and unnatural hairlines are difficult to correct anywhere. Choose on who operates, then on price.

How the trip works

  1. 1
    Send three photographs

Front, crown and donor area on WhatsApp. Dr. Bansal replies with a graft range and which technique suits you.

  2. 2
    Video consultation

With the surgeon, in English, at a time that suits your time zone. Questions answered directly, not through a coordinator.

  3. 3
    Written plan and total figure

Graft count, technique, what is included, and the total payable. Nothing is booked until you have this in writing.

  4. 4
Apply for an e-Visa and book flights

Most nationalities are approved online within three to four working days. Fly into Delhi, or directly into Jaipur from the Gulf.

  5. 5
Consultation in person, then the procedure

Day one is an in-person assessment and hairline design. Day two is the procedure, performed by Dr. Bansal. Larger sessions occasionally take two days.

  6. 6
    First wash, review, fly home

The first wash is done at the clinic the following day. By day four the grafts are secure. Reviews continue over video at one, three, six and twelve months.

Questions from overseas patients

Why is a hair transplant in India so much cheaper than in the UK, US or Gulf?

Clinical time, theatre space and staffing cost far less in India. The instruments, anaesthesia and techniques — FUE, FUT and DHI — are the same ones used in London, New York or Dubai. What varies between clinics anywhere is who performs the extraction and implantation; here it is the surgeon.

How does the consultation work before I travel?

Send photographs of the front, crown and donor area on WhatsApp. Dr. Bansal replies with a realistic graft range and the technique that suits your pattern of loss. A video consultation follows if you want one, then a written plan and a total figure. Nothing is booked until you have both.

How many nights do I need in India?

Four nights is the minimum: consultation, procedure, first wash and review, then fly. Seven is more comfortable for long-haul patients and allows further reviews before you leave.

Which clinic should I use, Delhi or Jaipur?

Delhi is about 40 minutes from Indira Gandhi International Airport and suits a short trip. Jaipur is the main clinic, has direct flights from the Gulf, and suits a longer stay or a larger session. The surgeon, the techniques and the plan are identical at both.

How does follow-up work once I am home?

Reviews at one, three, six and twelve months are conducted over video. Anything in between is handled the same day over WhatsApp with photographs.

Do you arrange hotels and transfers?

We recommend hotels near each clinic and can arrange airport pick-up on request. We do not bundle them into a package price, because a package hides what you are actually paying for the surgery.

Do I need a visa?

Most nationalities apply online for an Indian e-Visa, usually approved within three to four working days. Indian passport holders and OCI card holders need nothing. Each country page below has the specifics.
