Hair transplant in India for patients from the United States

American clinics price per graft at three to eight dollars, so a meaningful session runs well past ten thousand dollars. Patients from the US come to India for the same procedure, surgeon-performed, at a small fraction of that — and many combine it with visiting family.

The per-graft arithmetic

In the United States, FUE is generally priced per graft, between three and eight dollars, with a 2,500 graft session commonly landing between US$8,000 and US$20,000. Health insurance does not cover it. At DR HAIR® India the same session falls in our published range of ₹30,000 to ₹1,50,000 — roughly US$350 to US$1,800 at current rates.

A round-trip flight from the East Coast and a week in a good hotel adds perhaps US$1,500 to US$2,500. The total still sits at a quarter of the American figure or less, and the procedure is performed by the surgeon rather than by technicians, which in the US is by no means guaranteed at any price.

Who travels from the US

Roughly half of our American patients are of Indian origin and time the procedure around a family visit, which removes the accommodation cost entirely and turns the recovery days into time with relatives. The other half are patients who priced FUE at home, looked at Turkey, and wanted a surgeon-performed alternative in an English-speaking clinical setting.

Both groups consult the same way: photographs on WhatsApp first, a graft range and technique recommendation from Dr. Bansal, then a written plan and a total figure before anything is booked.

Getting here from the US

Non-stop flights from New York (JFK and Newark), Chicago, San Francisco and Washington reach Delhi in 14 to 16 hours. Connections through the Gulf or Europe add a few hours but open up most other US cities. The Delhi clinic at Rajouri Garden is about 40 minutes from the airport; the Jaipur clinic is a 50-minute onward flight or four to five hours by train.

India is nine and a half hours ahead of New York and twelve and a half hours ahead of Los Angeles. Video consultations are scheduled in the Indian morning, which is the previous evening in the US, and that suits most patients well.

Visa

US passport holders apply online for an Indian e-Visa. A tourist e-Visa is sufficient for a consultation and procedure; an e-Medical Visa exists for longer stays. Approval usually takes three to four working days. OCI card holders need no visa at all.

Planning the stay

Allow a minimum of four nights and ideally seven. The procedure itself is one day, occasionally two for a large graft count. The first wash and review is the day after, and by day four the grafts are secure enough to fly. Reviews at one, three, six and twelve months are conducted over video from the US.

If you are visiting family for longer, we schedule the procedure early in the trip so that the redness has settled well before you fly home.

Questions from American patients

How much cheaper is a hair transplant in India than in the USA?

A 2,500 graft FUE session in the US commonly costs US$8,000 to US$20,000. The same session at DR HAIR® India falls in our published range of roughly US$350 to US$1,800, surgeon-performed. Flights and accommodation from the US add about US$1,500 to US$2,500.

Is the quality the same as an American clinic?

The techniques, instruments and anaesthesia are the same. What differs between clinics anywhere is who performs the extraction and implantation. Here it is Dr. Bansal himself, which is the question to ask any clinic in either country.

Do I need a visa?

Yes, unless you hold an OCI card. Apply online for an Indian e-Visa; approval usually takes three to four working days.

How long before I can fly home?

Four days after the procedure at the earliest. Seven nights in total is more comfortable and allows a further review before you leave.

Can I do the consultation before booking flights?

Yes, and you should. Send photographs on WhatsApp; you receive a graft range, a technique recommendation, a written plan and a total figure before booking anything.

Which clinic should I use — Delhi or Jaipur?

Delhi is closest to the international airport and suits a short trip. Jaipur is the main clinic and suits a longer stay or a larger session. The surgeon, techniques and plan are identical at both.
